Tasmanian Skilled Occupation List

Check the occupations in demand, visa requirements and eligibility for skilled migration through state nomination.

The Tasmanian Skilled Occupation List sets out the occupations that the state is currently seeking to fill through skilled migration. If your occupation appears on the list and you meet the associated requirements, you may be eligible for state nomination towards a skilled visa such as the subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional provisional) visa. State nomination can add valuable points to your application and open a dedicated pathway to living and working in Australia.

This list is available to all applicants including South Australian international graduates.

Additional occupations are available on the South Australia Supplementary Skilled List for South Australian international graduates who have completed a Bachelor degree or higher.

Important Note About the Occupation List

Please note that the list undergoes a change very frequently and whether or not your occupation is still open to accept fresh applications by the state is dependent on available quota. It is in your interest to lodge your application for the state ASAP. How fast and when the quota gets filled up for a specific occupation is not in our hands. Please contact our office to check whether or not your occupation is still open for accepting new applications.

Common Eligibility Conditions

Occupations on the list carry their own nomination conditions. Depending on the occupation, applicants may need to meet requirements such as the following before a nomination can be considered.

  • A minimum English language level, ranging from Competent, to Competent Plus, Proficient, Proficient Plus or Superior depending on the occupation.
  • A set number of years of relevant work experience in the field, where specified.
  • A minimum points score for offshore applicants, commonly 75 or 85 points depending on the occupation.
  • For several occupations, the subclass 491 provisional visa is the only pathway, with 190 nomination offered under specific circumstances only.
  • Some occupations are not available for High Points or Chain Migration nomination from stated dates, and others require full or general registration in Australia or a skills assessment by the relevant assessing authority.
  • For selected occupations, opportunities may be stronger in particular regions, such as wine or forestry regions further from the capital city.
