Alberta Occupation In-Demand List

See which occupations are in demand under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program and how the province's pathways match skilled workers to permanent residence.

Alberta is one of Canada's fastest-growing provinces, and its provincial nomination route offers skilled professionals a practical path to Canadian permanent residence. The Alberta PNP route is for foreign skilled professionals who have secured a job offer from an employer in Alberta, or who hold an Express Entry profile even without a job offer. Applicants are assessed against the province's labour market needs, so understanding which occupations are in demand is an important first step.

Alberta manages its skilled worker intake through three main streams, each targeting a different segment of the province's economy:

  • Express Entry stream
  • Healthcare Pathway

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ Icon

What is the Alberta PNP?

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), often referred to as the Alberta PNP, is the province's immigration program for skilled workers. It lets Alberta nominate candidates who can help meet local labour market needs for Canadian permanent residence.

FAQ Icon

What are the main Alberta streams?

There are three main streams for skilled professionals: the Express Entry stream, the Healthcare Pathway, and the Accelerated Tech Pathway. Each targets a different part of Alberta's economy.

FAQ Icon

Are all occupations accepted under Alberta Express Entry?

No. Under the Express Entry route almost all occupations are approved, but a defined list of ineligible occupations cannot be nominated. If your NOC code appears on the ineligible list, you are not eligible through that stream.

FAQ Icon

How do I check if my job is in demand in Alberta?

Match your National Occupational Classification (NOC) code against the in-demand lists on this page for the Healthcare and Accelerated Tech pathways, and confirm your occupation is not on the Express Entry ineligible list.

FAQ Icon

Do I need a job offer to apply through Alberta?

A job offer from an Alberta employer strengthens your application, but it is not always required. Candidates with an eligible Express Entry profile may be considered even without a job offer, depending on the stream.
